Weekend Recap

Friday

One of the best Fridays ever!!!! I did nothing! Like actually nothing. I didn't do laundry, or the dishes or clean anything!!! I sat on the couch and caught up on a bunch of shows that I "tapped" since during the week I can't always watch them. Man it was great!

Saturday

This morning I got to sleep in till about 8:30am which was really great. It is our turn to clean the church for the next 2 weeks so Matt was really sweet and had let me sleep in while he went and cleaned the church in the morning. Awesome Hubby! Then I showered and got ready and started to pack our bags because we were heading to Red Deer (his parents live there). We were not only going to Red Deer to visit his parents but the main reason was that Matt was holding a youth service and discussion for the youth that are in Red Deer at our church. So getting to visit with Matt's parents was just a little bonus. We packed over night bags just in case we would be spending the night because Matt wasn't sure how long the discussion would go. When we got there we had a really great lunch and his parents packed us up the left overs so we could take them home which I was super happy about because it was Roldan and spetzles (i don't know how to spell this )! After lunch Matt went to go take a nap, he was pretty tired, so Matt's parents and I watched the movie Leap Year. I had never seen it before but it was pretty funny!

Around 4:30pm I went to go make sure that Matt was getting up so he could get ready for the youth service. I wasn't going to go with him for this one because I didn't want to be there while there were having their discussion since it was just for them. When Matt left his mom and I decided to watch another movie. I went to go look through the movies that they had and came across Sex and the City 2. I hadn't seen that movie before and I didn't go see it in theaters because well lets face it, I'm too cheap to go see it in theaters. So we popped the movie in and it was just us two watching the movie because Matt's dad was upstairs reading a book. I really enjoy the TV show of sex in the city so I liked the movie too after I watched it.

After the movie we went upstairs to go hang out with Matt's dad too. We really had thought that Matt would be home already since it was around 8:30pm. Well we just waited around and chatted about a bunch of different things, the time kept getting later and later. It was around 10pm that I sent Matt a text to find out where he was, then I called him and no answer. So then i sent a text to someone that I knew was at the meeting and she said it was still going. Well Matt did not get back until 11:30 pm when the service started at 6pm and they had the discussion right after which probably started at 7pm ish. It was a good thing we packed over night bags because there was no way we were going to drive home this late and especially with the roads not being the greatest. I took a picture of the room that we always stay in while we are visiting. Its the purple room, just a little background on this house, just about every room is a different vibrant colour!

Sunday

We woke up pretty early this morning because we had to head back to Calgary before church. So we had breakfast and then left around 8am. The drive home was not as good as the drive out to Red Deer, there was more blowing snow and when trying to pass someone it was pretty hard to see. But we made it with no problems! After church we went to go visit the family that we went to go see a few Sundays ago to go see their baby and just spend some time with them. They were so sweet and gave us lunch too, it was a really great visit. We didn't get to stay too long because Matt had a meeting at 2pm out in Chestermere, so straight from there home we went out to Chestermere. Luckily we have some friends in Chestermere so I went over to their house while Matt was at his meeting. We were going to be going to their house later anyways because they invited us for dinner. (today was awesome we didn't have to make one meal for ourselves, super spoiled!!) It was a great dinner, I had chicken (it was a chicken "swiss"), potatoes and asparagus, Matt had steak instead of chicken.
We then left around 7:30pm and got home, It was a really great weekend visiting people but it was so nice to just be home!

Renovation Wednesdays

OUR BATHROOM IS COMPLETE!!! It took several months to get it complete but it is finally done. The bathroom was usable for a long time now but it just wasn't finished all the way. So no more babble here are the pictures. Let me know what you think.

Weekend Recap

 This weekend was not nearly as busy as some of the weekends I've been having. Which was GREAT!!!

Friday
I got to leave work about 1 1/2 hours early YAY! I didn't really do anything too exciting but I did get most of my laundry done that day which is always a good thing.

Saturday
Today was a little bit busier. First in the morning I went to my Mary Kay Directors house to learn about the new foundations that are coming out. They are really awesome, I can't wait to get mine. We were also told that we have a challenge to do in February to do 30 stripe tests on 30 different women. (stripe tests are just matching the right color for foundation) So if anyone is in Calgary and is willing to help me with this challenge that would be so awesome!!!
Then I went to go visit my sister in law at her place so I could check out their nursery. It is so cute! They did it gender neutral because they are not 100% sure it their baby is a girl or a boy, at their ultra sound the baby was not fully cooperating. But soon enough we will all find out. Only about a month left !!!!
When I left my sister in laws place she gave me some maternity shirts for our friend Rachel, and it just so happened that I was actually going over to her house anyways. We planned to have a date in and watch a movie. We rented Eat, Pray, Love off of Shaw cable.

We were going to go out to a movie theater but thought staying in would be better, 1. wont cost as much and 2. we could dress really casual (yoga pants) and not care what we look like! Rachel and I both read the book so it was good to watch the movie too. It did a good job at kind of summarizing the book because of course they can't fit everything that was in the book in the movie. We also ordered in pizza, yum!

Sunday
This day was not nearly as busy as the one before. We just stayed home after church and Matt watched the football games, yes games there was non stop football. I on the other hand didn't feel like watching that much football. So I just relaxed, it was really nice I don't get to do that too often.

I hope everyone else had a really great weekend too.

Renovation Wednesdays

Our bathroom renovation started in May of 2010, we had always wanted to redo our bathroom since it was all dated and some tiles were broken and needed a second paint job (it was originally pink, I like pink and all but not on my bathroom walls) What got us to really get going on starting this renovation was our faucet for our tub was leaking and it wasn't just dripping every hour, it would fill up my floor washing bucket in about 2 HOURS!!! That is a lot of water.

So that is my bucket getting full of water. How ever I didn't waste this water that I collected I brought it out side and watered my gardens with it. I think my flowers really liked it because they did well last year!

I know we could have probably just changed the faucet and called it quites but we made it into the perfect opportunity to get a new bathroom. We decided that if we are going to end up changing everything in this bathroom at some point it would be a lot easier to do it all at once rather then piece by piece because of the shape and size of the bathroom. Luckily for this bathroom reno we have people in our family that were able to help us. Like Matt's younger brother he is a plumber so he was able to get us our tub and faucets, toilet, sink and new new plumbing pipe for a really good deal and FREE LABOUR!!! Then Matt's older brother has laid out and put up tile in his washrooms at his house so he already had practice of what to do and was able to help us out with that as well. My dad also help with some of the structural stuff like our sub flooring and drywall and mudding and taping. We also have a friend that is a painter that was able to come visit us on a weekend and paint our washroom for us, walls and ceiling! So we were very fortunate to have these people help us out other wise it would have been way more expensive!

I will start off showing you the pictures of the "before" brace yourselves its not very pretty.

So this was our old bath tub / shower. The tub used to have the glass sliding doors on it which then left funny marks on the edges and broke some of the tiles. The shower head in this picture we kept though because my brother in law gave this to us a while back since it was just an extra (its an awesome shower head)

The cabinet above the toilet we did not keep or the medicine cabinet in a few pictures down, but we were able to give it to one of my friends so that worked out well.

So this was our gross toilet! Oh and you see the linoleum it has pink flowers and vines and the original paint color when we first moved in was that pink color. We couldn't stand having a pink bathroom so that we did a while back just so it would look slightly better.

So the mirror in the picture was actually a medicine cabinet too, great for storage but oh so ugly, that was taken out and was never stepping foot back in the bathroom EVER!

And our old school cabinet, it was able to be home for a lot of things (that I had to put in storage containers and stack them) but it needed to go. These cabinets are actually the kind of cabinets that are in our kitchen. I would love to get our kitchen done but first we need our basement done so we have more usable living space.

So that was the before, do I miss it you ask? Well.......... NO!!! Not at all, good riddance I say.
I did take a few pictures of the progress that we were making, which took a while to get finished, since there was a full month that Matt was working out of town :( that had sucked. Also during that time he was away we had no bathroom, AT ALL no working shower no nothing. So for about 2 weeks+ I stayed at my parents. Which was really great, home cooked meals and being able to spend more time with them otherwise I would be at home alone with a washroom that didn't work. I really didn't feel like trying to have a "shower" in my kitchen sink!

Our floor used to squeak when you walked on it, especially in front of the sink so it was really annoying every time you were there. So my dad came and screwed the sub flooring to the beams under it.

Now I was a bit rushed to pick out the tile because I didn't really know when we were going to be needing them since we didn't have a date set for Matt's older brother to come to town and help us do the tiles. Until about a week before he was coming I was told I need to pick out tiles this week and get the grout too. AHHH!! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a tile that I liked. I went to home depot and totem to see what they had, I liked a few of them but I thought the tile was a bit thin and I just didn't want it to break. So then my friend Janeen told me about a place that she had gotten her tiles from and they really liked them and they were great quality. So I went and checked it out and I took my mom with me (this is when I was staying over at their house during the renos) because I just wanted someone else with me so I wouldn't have to totally pick out a tile by my self. When we got to the shop we just started to look around in the show room, then I spotted this guy that I used to work with and he worked at this tile place now!!! So we caught up with each other for a bit since it was about 2 1/2 - 3 yrs since we worked together. He was really helpful and showed us some tiles that were discontinued that they had lots of which made the price of the tile that much better! For the big tile originally it was about $15 per tile but since it was discontinued it was about $2.50 per tile and then on top of that he gave me a discount too! It was so amazing of him to do that! I also wanted an accent tile for the shower but those ones weren't on sale but I did get a discount of a few dollars off which was wonderful too (we didn't need too much of this though so it wasn't too bad that it wasn't on sale). So here is the tile that we had picked out.

But it turned out really good besides all the cement mess (don't worry it was easy enough to clean off because we cleaned it shortly after so it wouldn't be too hard)

So this project was started in May of 2010 and we just finished putting up the back splash over the Christmas/ New Years break. But hey its done and I'm happy. (we only have to lacquer the base boards (which needs to be done in the spring/ summer) and put the transition in but we are working on it). Next week you get to see the finished product :) !!!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was very busy!!! Friday night Matt's Parents came to Calgary and stayed at our house because they were flying out on Saturday Morning to Winnipeg to celebrate one of our relatives 40th wedding anniversary! His parents brought us dinner which was nice and then we watched a movie (the Proposal), Matt and I had already watched it but his parents had never seen it yet. Around 8:30pm I had just remembered that I was suppose to make a carrot cake for the Baby Shower the next day. So I got up and started making the cake. These last few weeks I have made 4 carrot cakes... I know whats with all the carrot cakes? Well I bought a bag of carrots from Costco, and it was super sized! Lesson learnt...... Don't buy such a big bag for 2 people. The only good thing is that carrots just seem to last for a really long time. So I'm almost done the bag now which is good because I was afraid I was going to turn orange!

Saturday I got to sleep in a bit till 8am YAY! Its better then my Monday to Friday waking up at 4:30am. This day was going to be pretty busy. At 10:30am my friend Katherine was going to pick me up because we were going to be setting up a Mary Kay booth at a convention center for the Bridal Fantasy show that they have every January. We set up the booth last year too so we figured we may as well volunteer for this year too since we know how to put it together. So I didn't take any pictures for it this year but I do have a few from last year, basically it looks very similar.

One main thing that was different was that the Mary Kay sign this year was hung over the table horizontally.

Also there were a few products that are different that we put out then last year too.

Once we finished setting up it was about 1pm (so about 2hrs to set it up) which is when the baby shower that I was going to next started at. So Katherine dropped me off at my house around 1:30pm and I raced in started my car (since it was sooooo cold!!!) changed and was out the door again. I was able to get to Doris's house (the mother to be) just before 2pm, its a good thing that we don't live too far away. I only snapped a few pictures at the shower and they were only of what I got her, so here they are.

This is a little sweater vest, when she opened it she asked if this was a away for Matt to show that he wants to take the baby golfing after he is born.

Mr. Popular, I'm pretty sure that he will be Mr. Popular at church, everyone just loves babies.

Also at the baby shower we played a game where we had to hold a paper plate on our heads and draw a "baby" in 30 seconds. Ya everyone had some interesting pictures. There was a lot of great food too, I can't believe how much I ate. I had a really nice time because I got to see a few people that I hadn't seen for a while. The baby shower was suppose to go until 4pm but most of the people didn't go yet, so I stayed until 5pm.
Once I got home I got a wave of being super tired, it felt like a really busy day. Plus Matt was watching sports on a couple of different channels so I knew there was no way I was going to get to watch what I wanted. So Instead I had a nap until 11pm and then Matt woke me up so then I could go to bed. It felt like a very long day.

On Sunday we went to church in the morning and right after church we went to go visit two families from the church. The first family they just had their second child, another little boy. He was sooo cute, and only a week old. I got to hold him too :). Then we went to another home and had lunch, it was really good. Then we went home for a bit to change and do a few things around the house and then went out again to go visit another couple of friends at their house. We left there place around 9:45pm and went quickly over to my parents house because they had made a big dinner and wanted to give us left overs. Once all said and done we didn't get home again until 10:45pm. That was a really long day but it was great to go and visit all of those that we did. I'm hoping next Sunday wont be as busy.

Renovation Wednesdays

So this weekend we got a bit more work done on our storage closets, if you want you can look back at last weeks post on where we ended up getting to if you don't remember. This weekend we got the insulation up and the poly (plastic sheet) up and sealed. I did all the red tape work (its called tuck tape) it is really sticky tape but helps seal off the over lapping sheets of plastic and any hole in the plastic from staples so that there wont be any cold air flowing through. It was pretty easy to do. I also did help with moving the insulation back to the rooms since it was moved out of the way when framing, I was a little bit itchy from it after ward but not too bad because I had long sleeves on and gloves. We probably wont get the dry wall up this weekend, so I'm planning on posting for next week our bathroom, I think I will do 2 posts on it (the before/ progress and then one for after ) So here is how it looks now with the insulation finished.

Renovation Wednesdays

So on Monday January 3rd, when most people had the day off for "New Years Day", I was one of the lucky ones that had to go into work. So when I got downtown I was walking my usual few blocks to the building that I work in and since it was a chilly-windy morning (at 6:40am) I was trying to get in a few buildings that conect with mine so I wouldnt have to walk out side anymore. Well you guessed it THEY WERE ALL LOCKED!!! I was freezing! When I finally got to the office building that I work in the doors were locked and the lights we out. So I had to go around the building to where the security door is and buzz myself in. That was such a pain. Then as I was walking in the building all the lights were on low for "energy saving" or what ever you want to call it, it was a bit creepy. Anyways I got to my office, did my work, made the calls, and only saw about 20max walking through the hall when usually there are hundreds of people walking by in an 8 hour day. So ya everyone seemed to still be on holidays.

While I was at work though my husband took the day off and my dad had the day off so they got working on our basement. YAY progress. So as I had mentioned before in one post that Matt started to tear down a wall in the basement where we want storage rooms to go, well they started to frame out the storage rooms!!!

"We're off to see the Wizard the Wonderful Wizard of Oz"

So as Christmas gifts for my Mom and Rachel this year I decided it would be a fun idea to get tickets to go to a show. Well it just so happened that the Wizard of Oz came to our city over the Christmas/ New Years break and I thought that that would be a great show to go see and it was close to Christmas so they wouldn't have to wait too long to "use" their gifts. So I booked the tickets for January 1 2011 at 1pm main floor center! These were awesome seats.( I chose the afternoon show rather then the evening show because Rachel is preggers and I wanted to make sure she wouldn't be too tired and fall asleep. Success she stayed awake!) With it being the afternoon show there were a lot of kids there too, and some of them dressed up in Dorthy costumes it was so cute!
The performance was amazing! All the characters were fantastic, they looked good, sounded good, and acted out key characteristics from the movie characters. Also they had a REAL Toto!!! Ya this dog was amazing, so well trained and did what it was suppose to do when it was suppose to do it. I was wondering what they were going to do for Toto at the beginning of the show and thought that there was no way they would have a real dog.... but they did! It was really cool it may sound silly but I totally felt like one of the kids in the audience, I was so entranced by the performance and excited to be there! It was a great way to bring in the new year!
