Weekend Recap

Friday

Today after work I met my friend Sokhim at the mall because first we haven't seen each other since the summer and second I wanted to look for a maternity winter jacket (I didn't want to have to struggle to get into my coat).

Saturday

In the morning I decided to get some chores done and make banana muffins. I made 3 batches. It took a while to get them all baked but I was able to finish with enough time to get ready for the afternoon events.
This afternoon Matt left to go to Edmonton to hold youth service there tonight while I stayed home since there was a local youth service and coral concert practice here. The practice started at 3:30pm at the church but we didn't start singing until closer to 4pm since we waited on a few others to arrive. After that at 6pm we had youth service and Rachel had provided the meal/snack afterwards. It was also the first time in a long time that no one needed me to pick them up or give them a ride home for a youth service!

Sunday

Today we had service in the morning and right after I helped my parents take down some of the Thanksgiving decorations. I didn't end up staying too long because I had to go and run a few errands. As it was getting later and I was home again I called Matt to see where he was and he was still about an hour and a half from home. I ended up taking a nap on the couch and when I woke up Matt was home, it was the fastest hour and a half ever!

Bumpdate

How far along?   18weeks

How big is baby? The baby is about 6 inches long from crown to rump and weighs about 7ounces.

Gender? too early to know, but Matt is wanting it to be a surprise so we may not be finding out

Total Weight Gain? Still at about 7 lbs just like last week.

Maternity Clothes? yes I have maternity pants and skirts, its a lot easier sitting with out having your pants dig in to you. And still regular shirts, but I am finding that some of them are almost too short but I still have long enough ones.

Symptoms? I have been sneezing a lot this week, not sure what that is about.

Food Cravings? I haven't been craving anything in particular, its mostly if I smell something good then I want it but that doesn't mean I have to eat it.

Food Aversions? There is nothing that has been unappealing.

What I miss? Well I was missing eating sushi because I went to an open house thing on Tuesday and most of the stuff they had was sushi.

Sleep? Sunday night was not a good night, I fell asleep fine but I started waking up at about 12:30am and was tossing and turning and had a headache. But then I caught up on my sleep Monday after work I climbed into bed and woke up Tuesday morning, so about 11 hours. (This isn't unusual though for me I have slept like this even before I was pregnant if i felt like I needed extra sleep)

Movement? Can't feel any movement yet, probably not until 20 weeks, they said my placenta is at the front so that kind of hides the "early" movement.

Stretch marks? None yet. I have been putting lotion on before I go to bed. I am the type of person where I never put lotion on my body except for my legs sometimes. So this putting lotion on thing is hard for me to get used to.

Belly button? Still seems normal

Milestones? Making it to 18 weeks

Best moment of the week? Having patients at work starting to notice my belly.

What I am looking forward to? Our next ultrasound appointment.

Pregnancy moments with Matt: On Tuesday night Matt was getting the computer ready for me to look at something and he wouldn't let me peek. So when it was ready he let me look and he showed me all the cribs and changes tables he was looking/researching on Monday night while I slept. It was really cute!

Renovation Wednesday

So it has been about 3 weeks now and our basement has looked the same. I was hoping to have had more posts on our reno progress but unfortunately the person that we originally had to do the plumbing has kind of pushed it off now and we don't know if he is ever actually going to do it. So we now have had to look for someone else to do it for us, hopefully this will all work out and now its going to cost us way more then what we were planning on. You can only rely some family members on only small things and I guess not so much on big things like this.

Weekend Recap

Friday

Today after work I was pretty busy, first I went to motherhood maternity because I really wanted to get some maternity skinny jeans to wear with boots. Not only did I find skinny jeans but I also found another everyday pair of jeans just so I wouldn't have to figure out my days to be able to wash my one pair of maternity jeans that I had boughten before. Then I went to Costco and the Sobey's to pick up food for tomorrow's meeting at the church.

Saturday

Today we had our youth leaders meeting at the church, which I think it went really well. Unfortunately we were missing a couple of people but definitely glad that those who came did. I was in charge of the food which I have become fairly used too since Matt has been a youth leader. This really took up our whole day because after the meeting we all went out to Boston Pizza for dinner.

Sunday

Today was service and most of the youth leaders were able to stay in the city for service and didn't have to be in their own congregations in the other cities. After service though Matt was so tired and had such a bad headache that as soon as we got home he went for a nap because later this evening we were invited to the home of friends of ours. I woke Matt up with extra time before we had to go and he still wasn't feeling all the best but he still got ready and we were able to go together. Dinner was really great! Also we were given somethings for our baby that her son is too old for. Here are some of the items.

a mobile, bumper, laundry hamper and a measuring chart (not sure what else to call it)

little work station, sleeping bag/air mattress, books, puzzles Lego blocks, and those rubber mats that connect

gliding foot stool

glider/recliner rocking chair

Now we have to bring them over to my parent's house because we have no room for them at our house since our basement still has a big trench in the floor (you'll see the pictures on wednesday).

Boy or Girl? 21 Old Wives Tales That May Tell You

Boy or Girl? 21 Old Wives’ Tales That May Tell You*

1.Sleep PositionPay attention to which way you lay down in bed tonight. If you prefer sleeping on your left side, you’ll have a boy. Right side? You’re pregnant with a girl.
Well I go to bed on my left side because that is what they recommend to do, but I have always started sleeping on my left side and then before my alarm goes off in the morning I go on my right side because that is where my alram is -BOY
2.Upset StomachLittle girls aren’t always sweet. Extreme nausea means you are having a daughter.
I have had very little nausea -BOY
3.Soft or Dry HandsIf your hands are dry during pregnancy, you are having a boy; soft—expect a girl.
My hands are very dry, I have almost been getting sores - BOY
4.Food CravingsYour favorite pregnancy foods may tell you what sex the baby is. If you’re craving citrus while pregnant, you’re having a girl.
I haven't been craving much really but I do prefer cheese or an actual meal then anything else. - BOY
5.Adult AcneIf altering hormones makes your skin break out, expect a girl.
Well this one is tough because I have had acne ever since junior high and it has never fully gone away, sometimes I will get major break outs and then nothing at all. But I wouldn't say that pregnancy really changed it that much I just can't use any acne cream medications to nip it in the bud so at times it may seem worse. So for this one I will say - NOT SURE
6.Graceful or Clumsy PregnancyIf you feel as though you’re gliding through they day, you’ll have a girl. Stumbling? It’s a boy.
I think things have been going pretty smooth so far? - GIRL
7.Face Weight GainIf your face gets fuller, it means you’re having a girl.
So far haven't noticed anything yet - BOY
8.Sugar and Spice Food Cravings
Craving salt during pregnancy? Potato chips, pretzels, and popcorn means a boy is on the way. Need a little something sweet? Ice cream, chocolate, and candy means you’re having a girl.
More salty for sure - BOY
9.Mood ChangesIf you’re experiencing pregnant mood-swings, expect a baby girl to arrive soon.
I think I have been good so far - BOY
10.High or Low Pregnant BellyIf you’re carrying the baby low on your stomach, expect a boy. If it’s high, you’re having a girl.
I think this is for those who are farther along so its hard to tell also having a long torso kind of throws me off a bit. - NOT SURE
11.Baby WeightIf you’re carrying baby in front, it’s a boy. Is the baby weight spaced all around your middle? It’s a girl.
So far I think its pretty much in front, I may not be far enough along but this is what I'm going with - BOY
12.Pendulum TestDangle a chain with a charm over your palm. If it swings back and forth: boy. In a circle: girl.
So I had to do this a few times because it would keep changing then I figured out to have it touch my hand first and then bring it up and it went back and forth - BOY
13.Model Your Hands“Show me your hands.” If you would hold your hands palms up it’s a girl. Down? You’re having a boy.
I feel its more comfortable palms up - GIRL
14.Toddler AdviceGet baby advice from a nephew or friend’s little boy. If a toddler boy shows interest in your belly, you’ll have a girl. If he ignores you, it’s a boy.
When my niece and nephews stopped by our house my niece asked me how my belly was and my nephew just looked at me from far away but I don't think he had any interest. - BOY
15.Eat GarlicGuess the baby’s sex by eating garlic. If the smell seeps out of your pores it’s a boy. If there’s no scent it’s a little girl.
Well I tried eating some garlic bread and then I asked Matt if he could smell it and he just gave me a funny look but he didn't say I smelt like garlic so - GIRL
16.Key to PregnancyIf you pick up a key by the round end, you’re having a boy. If it’s by the long end? A girl.
I always pick up my keys from the "round" end (my key is square at the top and big) - BOY
17.Even and Odd NumbersIf your age and year of conception are both even or odd, it’s girl. One even, one odd means a boy.
BOY
18.Baby’s HeartbeatIf the baby’s heart beats more than 150 times per minute, you’re pregnant with a girl. Less than 150, it’s a boy.
BOY
19.Stress TestA child tends to be of the same sex as the parent who is less stressed at the time of conception.
As far as I can remember I think I was relaxed because it was my first week of holidays and the stress really didn't come until after. - GIRL
20.Dream MeaningsIf you dream about having a girl while pregnant, you will wind up having a boy and vice versa.
I don't think I have had a dream knowing the gender NOT SURE
21.Breast SizeIf your right breast is larger than the left while pregnant, you are having a girl. If the left is larger, it’s a baby boy.
TMI for this question but I think they are pretty even - NOT SURE
* Source
My final score:
GIRL = 4

BOY = 13
NOT SURE = 4

Looks like for me, there’s a definite trend.

There’s also the Chinese Gender Chart which some people swear by, but I’ve seen several different versions of it and I don’t know which version is the real one: this one or this one. They both gave me the same result of which was a BOY.

I have always thought my first baby would be a boy, but really the only one that truely knows right now is God and I guess we will just have to wait to find out. I might still be able to convince Matt to change his mind about finding out sooner. However I don't really want to say it but I think I am starting to kind of be ok with not knowing. But we will see how things go as time goes one it may change again.

Bumpdate

How far along?  17weeks

How big is baby? The baby is almost 5 and a half inches long from crown to rump and weighs approximately 5 ounces.

Gender? too early to know, but Matt is wanting it to be a surprise so we may not be finding out

Total Weight Gain?  About 7 pounds now

Maternity Clothes? yes I have maternity pants and skirts, its a lot easier sitting with out having your pants dig in to you. And still regular shirts.

Symptoms? My gag reflex has been kind of bugging me this week just when having to take my vitamins at night, it takes me a while to get them down.

Food Cravings? I guess you can say it changes daily because I will smell something or see something and then want it, but I still haven't had the "need" to have it.

Food Aversions? Nothing has been bugging me so I'm all good on this one.

What I miss? At the moment I am good.

Sleep? Sleep is still good it was better when I had my huge body pillow on the bed, but Matt made me put it away because he didn't have any room on the bed, sigh :(

Milestones? Making it to 17 weeks

Best moment of the week? Just being pregnant

What I am looking forward to? Going to our next ultrasound in a few weeks.

Pregnancy moments with Matt: Matt was in the office and asked me to come in there to look at some things he was working on on the computer, I see him looking at me and ask him "What is that big grin for?"
He says "You have a cute belly"

Weekend Recap

Friday

Today Matt flew out to Ontario for a District youth leaders meeting for the weekend. I will miss him all weekend until he comes back!
So today was a little bit stressful for a bit. I left work early because I had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon at 2:20pm. I got to the ctrain platform downtown at about 1:40pm. There were a lot of people on the platform which only means one thing, the ctrains are having problems and they are not running. Last time this happened they got everyone to go to the end of the line and catch the ctrain there. Well the only problem with that was when I got to the end there still weren't any trains.
I was messaging my brother's girlfriend Megan at the time and she works really close to downtown so she said she would come and pick me up. Literally 3 minutes later she was there. By this time though I was already late for my appointment but I had called earlier to let them know there were problems with the ctrains downtown and I was downtown. They were totally fine with it which was great however I was so anxious since I am never late for a doctor's appointment.
Megan drove me to my car at the ctrain station I was parked at and I headed for my doctor's appointment. They got me in right away which never happens usually and they did all the stuff they had to do. Then after my appointment I went home because I was going to be meeting Rachel there so we could go shopping for boots.
We went to the mall and went to every shoes store or at least just about every shoe store. I hate it when walking around the mall and you can't find what you are looking for in the stores but everyone else is wearing what you want. Its crazy, everyone had nice boots on and we were having such a hard time finding any. Well at the end of the shopping trip Rachel found some boots and ordered them. I still however did not find any yet, but I wont give up.

Saturday

Today was a stay at home, didn't shower, stay in my pj's all day kind of day. Since Matt wasn't around I was able to get a few things done around the house. I also went online to look for boots as well. I have had some luck before when shopping online at Aldo, so I went to their website first. Low and behold, I found boots, not only did I find boots but they were in the clearance section for only $45 only left in my size. To me that is meant to be. Sorry no picture but I will take one when I get them, should be this week hopefully.

Sunday

Today I went to church and we had a choir practise afterwards as well. After that I went to the mall to check for a few items. I did get one thing that I wanted but it wasn't for me. Matt had also texted me and told me he forgot his phone charger in Toronto and that if I could pick him up one while I was at the mall.
I had gone to the mall close to my parent's house so I went to their house afterwards. I ended up staying there until I had to leave to pick Matt up at the airport. It was a really nice afternoon/evening, I always get fed so well when I am over there, it was awesome.

Total Weight Gain? maybe 5lbs now, I forgot to weigh my self right at the beginning

Maternity Clothes? yes I have maternity pants and skirts, its a lot easier sitting with out having your pants dig in to you. And still regular shirts.

Symptoms? I have been so thirsty! usually after 1pm or so the back of my throat just gets so dry!

Food Cravings? I have been wanting a ham sandwich for a while so I went and bought a small pre cooked ham, sliced it up and then fried up the ham in a plain frying pan and then making delicious sandwiches!

Food Aversions? I don't really have any aversions right now.

What I miss? Right now not much since I have been making myself ham sandwiches.

Sleep? Sleep is still good, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night maybe once either to go pee or just because.

Movement? Can't feel any movement yet, probably not until 20 weeks, they said my placenta is at the front so that kind of hides the "early" movement.

Canadian Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians out there!

There are so many people and things I am thankful for this year. My list can go on for ever if I start writing it down but just to name a few I am thankful that I have God in my life, for my loving husband, our family, our amazing friends and for all that we have had to go through to have this amazing miracle happen to us.

It has been such a long time that we have been waiting to have this little miracle come true for us and we couldn't be more excited and thrilled about it.

To let you all in on what our Thankgiving Monday was like this year here is what we did. First we went to the mall to meet John and Rachel there because Rachel found a pair of jeggings online that she thought would work really well for us. We eneded up both getting them (its kind of just what we do, we have a good number of clothes that are the same or just in a different color), it's fun having someone to do that with.
Then we all went over to my parent's home for lunch. My brother and his girlfriend Megan were already there as well as our friend Jessica. Lunch was almost ready so we helped with the last few things and enjoyed each others company. Here are a few pictures of our dinner and what happened afterwards.
Everyone filling their plates

I wish Matt had smiled in this photo

So much food!
And this is what happened after we ate as much as we could from all that food. I don't think I will have to write anything for these next 3 pictuers.

Weekend Recap

Friday

Today I got off work a little bit earlier than normal which was great! I also went over to John and Rae's house for dinner, Matt was invited too but he was golfing with John so they came arrived later then me. It was a great dinner!

Saturday

Today we had a youth choir practise because at the end of November we are going to have a youth Christmas concert so we need to get some practices in before then. After that all the youth that came to the choir practise then got to go to the Calgary Corn maze. It was a really nice day out and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We had three teams to go through the corn maze, the guy youth, the girl youth and the youth leaders.

Rae wanted me to show off my belly so Matt decided to show his off too.

Sunday

Today for our Canadian church Thanksgiving we were asked to bring a snack that was red and white to represent Canadian Thanksgiving. I made red and white jello! My mom always would make layered jello so I asked her for the recipe and tried it out. It turned out not to bad, and it tasted good!

Bumpdate

How far along?  15 weeks

How big is baby? The baby is about 4 inches long from crown to rump and weighs about 2.5 ounces.

Gender? too early to know, but Matt is wanting it to be a surprise so we may not be finding out

Total Weight Gain? maybe 4 to 5lbs now, I forgot to weigh my self right at the beginning

Maternity Clothes? yes I have maternity pants and skirts, its a lot easier sitting with out having your pants dig in to you. And still regular shirts.

Symptoms? Still the same as last week but I also have found my nose to be kind of runny, I'm not sure if it is just because it is getting colder out.

Food Cravings? I haven't been craving anything in particular, its mostly if I smell something good then I want it but that doesn't mean I have to eat it.

Food Aversions? I don't really like meat all that much, it has to be really good for me to want to eat it.

What I miss? German sandwich meat

Sleep? Sleep is still good, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night maybe once either to go pee or just because.

Movement? Can't feel any movement yet, probably not until 20 weeks, they said my placenta is at the front so that kind of hides the "early" movement.

Belly button? Still seems normal

Milestones? Making it to 15 weeks

Best moment of the week? Knowing people are really excited for us.

What I am looking forward to? Going to my doctors appointment next week, I should probably get to know how much weight I have actually gained instead of just guessing.

Pregnancy moments with Matt: Matt was feeling my belly last night and he said "it's hard?" I asked him what did he expect it to feel like. He didn't really have an answer, I don't think he had any clue what its suppose to feel like.

Another Surprise Today

Today we received more treats to our office, this time it was from an orthodontic office that we refer a lot of patients to to get braces. These chocolates I am going to leave alone since I had way too many sweets yesterday!
Chocolate turkey anyone?

This Thanksgiving horn is filled with chocolates!

So many chocolates!

Renovation Wednesday

It has been a while since the last reno post has taken place but that is because it has taken a while for more things to get done in the basement. I now have holes in my basement, well more like a trench. Matt started to break up the concrete with the jack hammer but didn't have too much time. So last week his dad came to our house and finished jack hammering for us. Now Matt just has to do a bit of digging with the shovel to make a clear path for the pipes to go down for the wash room. I'm hoping this will get done very soon because it would be nice to start working on the nursery but I can't do that until the office goes to the basement.

This is where the bathroom will be

The middle are is for the office

And this will be the storage room ... at some point

That is a very big hole in our basement!

A Nice Surprise

Today one of our patients sent us Crave cupcakes! They were delicious, I had two cupcakes, yes 2 of them! I can't believe I had 2 in the same day, they are so sweet but really good. Now no more sweets like that for the rest of the week because that is just too much. Here is what these delicious cupcakes looked like.

Weekend Recap

Friday

Today after work I had to go to our other dental office because we were all meeting there to take our CPR refresher course. Being a dental assistant we have to update our CPR every year. I hope I never ever have to use it though! After that I just went home and did a few lazy things around the house.

Saturday

Today was full of everything! Since I had put off going to Costco for the last 2 days I had to go this morning. So I left my house just before 9:30am (which is when they open and always before 9:30am there is already a line up outside the door) and was still able to get a descent parking spot when I arrived. I loaded my cart, because really how can you not when you are at Costco its so easy, and got the items that I needed for our church Thanksgiving (more on that in a bit).
When I was leaving Costco it was starting too rain, I don't mind the rain at all, I always giggle to myself when I see the ladies holding whatever they can find over their heads so their hair wont get wet. I say rain water is great for your hair, it makes it nice and soft! Also as I was loading my groceries in my car there was a car waiting for my spot the whole time. When I had like one or two things left in my cart a lady from that car came up and said "oh I'll take your cart too while my husband parks" and off she went to the store. Its crazy! Costco is a crazy place to go on a Saturday morning, yet I do it all the time.
Matt was working this morning so when I got home I had to bring in all my groceries that were for us but I left the groceries that I was going to be bringing to the church. I grabbed a quick snack while I was at home because I had to leave again to go to the church, I only put the groceries that had to go in the fridge or freezer and left all the other items in the living room.
So church Thanksgiving, is great! We celebrate Thanksgiving in our church with the congregation the weekend before Canadian Thanksgiving to allow that weekend for families. So on the Saturday before church Thanksgiving we bring fruits and vegetables to the church so we can decorate the alter with them. The food doesn't go to waste afterwards because members of the church take some items home and then whatever is left we donate them. With everyone working together we were able to get the alter completed in about 2 hours, there of course was still a few other things to get done after that and clean up but it went pretty quick.
Then I got home from that just after 1pm because I was meeting someone at 2 and I wanted to stop home first to eat something. Lucky me Matt was home and he had pizza with him, I was just going to have a bagel but pizza was way better! I had a few pieces and then off I went again.
I went to go meet up with my friend Janeen at Starbucks since we have not seen each other in a few months. It was a really short visit but great at the same time.
Later this evening Matt and I went to go and pick up 2 old furnaces from my parents house because a friend of ours from out of town was going to pick them up for his garage. So after we got them we went over to my brother's house where we were meeting them and hung out for a while and caught up with one another.
We did not get home till close to 11pm which is so late for me, I'm usually in bed by 8:30-9pm. As soon as I hit the pillow I was out!

Sunday

Church Thanksgiving is here! This is how the alter turned out from the decorating yesterday.

After the service we had a large pot luck fellowship with turkey and all the side dishes. I ate so much I had to get a friend to eat some of the turkey that I had left over.

Later in the afternoon Rachel came over and we watched a movie, Henry slept the whole time! After they had left it was time to clean up some of the mess from making mashed potatoes for the church fellowship.
