Renovation Wednesday

So this is what I had come home to at our house yesterday.Your probably wondering "what the heck is is?" That is exactly what I was thinking when I had first seen it too. Basically in these white plastic bags there are thousands of foam particles that have been compressed to form as sheets (kind of like drywall sheets). Now you must be wondering "and why do you have all of this? What is it used for?" Well this summer we are planning on removing our ugly siding and replace it with new siding (still not sure what color but really anything is better the a pukey yellow green color). So we figured since we are removing this siding we should really see about insulating our exterior walls better since in winter our walls are very drafty and cold (this is what happens when you buy an old house). I'm not too sure how long these huge packages of foam will be sitting in our back yard like this, but hey when you get a fantastic deal on something you just have to take it when you can get it.

Oh and I had to help Matt move these from our parking pad to inside the back yard, let me tell you it was hard. Just because it is foam and you would think foam would be light, well guess what its not so light when it is condensed.

Weekend Recap

So this weekend I have to say was pretty slack since Matt was away. I had all these plans to get stuff done around the house since Matt wouldn't be home....but I did nothing productive at all. But I feel totally good about it, sometimes you just need to do nothing.

Friday
Really all I did today was go to work, come home, sit on the couch and watch TV and then go to bed. And really that is all I did, it was great!

Saturday
Today I went to a conflict resolution seminar that was put on at our church for the ministers and their wives. Even though Matt was in Toronto this weekend I still went, but I did have a little bit of fun with it because before Matt had gone he asked me if I was still going to go to the seminar with out him. I told him "why should I go if  my conflict will be in Toronto?" Oh it was funny, we both laughed about it. In our relationship we definitely like to joke around here and there. So back to the seminar it was Saturday morning from 9am to 4pm (it was suppose to be till 5pm but we were able to finish early!)

After the seminar I went home and put comfy clothes on and spent the evening like I did Friday night, but I did make dinner because I didn't have anymore left overs. Also I did do a lot of laundry, I was still trying to catch up from when we had all of those people stay over.

Sunday

Today was a great day because Matt was coming home YAY! In the morning I had church and then we had a shortish choir practice to learn a few new songs. Once I got home it was a mad dash to clean the house before I had to go and pick Matt up from the airport.  Matt kept sending me texts while I was trying to clean so then I finally just told him that I can't keep text right now because I'm trying to get the house clean, he sent me a text that said "lol". That's because when I was in Vancouver that's what he did cleaned the house the day that I was suppose to come home.(If you remember from my Vancouver post that I didn't come home till the next day) Anyways at the Calgary airport they have this awesome new parking lot that is called cell phone parking which means you can park there for free and wait for the person that you are picking up to call you to let you know they are ready for you to pick them up. Well I waited there till Matt had gotten off the plane but then I still went in to the "short term" parking and went into the airport so I could see him come down the escalator. It was perfect timing because just as I was coming around the corner he was about in the middle of the way down the escalator. It was great to see him again, I know it was only for a few days, but still I missed him. As soon as we were together he told me all about his trip and how great it was. I am really happy that he had such and great time and was so pumped about it. Hopefully the next one that he goes on I will be able to go too.

Five Question Friday

Dreams! 

1. What was the happiest dream (aka the best one) dream you ever had? As a kid I dreamed about candy land. (I think it was inspired from a Simpsons episode, where Homer was in either a candy land or chocolate land. I know the Simpsons but I really think that is where it came from). It was a really cool place; I had that dream a number of times as a kid.
As an adult I think I had one that I could get anything that I wanted, as an example if I were walking down the street and I saw something that I liked that someone was wearing I would think of it and then that exact item or outfit would be waiting at home for me in my size and to fit me perfectly. Wouldn’t that be amazing if that was actually able to happen? 

2. What was the worst dream you ever had? As a kid I had this one dream about a witch and I was in her castle and I couldn’t get out and I was being chased. It was really dark with scary movie music and all that. Now that I’m thinking about it again I really hope I don’t dream about it again. I had this quite a few times as a kid.
As an adult my worst dream would have to be ones where people in my life were dying or had died and there was nothing I could do. Just the other night I had one of those dreams, it makes me feel so confused when I wake up. 

3. If you had your choice tonight, what would you dream about? About finding out I was pregnant and living my life with Matt and our children in our dream home. That would be the best dream ever!  

4. If you had your choice again tonight, what dream would you not like to have? Any dream about anyone dying.  

5. What was your wildest dream (the craziest dream you would dare speak of)? Usually the really crazy dreams are the dreams that I can’t remember once I wake up. So I would have to say I really am not sure.

Matt's Leaving

Tomorrow Matt will be going to Toronto for Church business and will be coming home again on Sunday evening. I am going to miss him so much! I know its only for a few days but all last week we had his parents staying at our house so they could be in Calgary to help Karina (our sister in law) with her new baby. So really we haven't had too much time to our selves since I was gone the weekend before last weekend. I know that the time will fly by because I am going to be soooo busy over the next few days, but it will still suck that he will not be around. While he is away I am wanting to work on the basement a little bit more but I don't think I will have enough time to do that . Oh well our renos will be put on hold again.

Vancouver Dental Conference

Sorry this is a very long post but I did say I was going to post what happened in Vancouver and here it is.

At the beginning of the year my boss had asked us if we would want to go to Vancouver in March for their annual dental conference. We all thought that would be pretty cool to go to a dental conference somewhere other then Calgary, but we didn't quite believe it until we got our flight confirmations. I know its pretty bad that we weren't totally expecting to be going until we saw the confirmations, but oh well what can you do.

Thursday March 10th

Was the first day of course taking, which was the day that we arrived in Vancouver. Some of the other people that I talked to there had gotten there on Wednesday so they could attend the morning courses on Thursday with out being late. We were definitely late to the conference because we took the 7:00am flight from Calgary to Vancouver so arrived in Vancouver at about 7:20/ 7:30am. Then we had to of course wait for our bags which takes about 30minutes, while we were waiting though our boss got us a limo to take to our hotel (honestly wasn't expecting that).Once we got to our hotel we had to figure out the rooms and who's names were under which room and all that stuff, however we were not able to "check in" until 11am. So the took our bags and put them in storage so we wouldn't have to drag them around with us at the dental conference.

We then walked over to the Convention center and got our bags and itineraries and looked around the place and found some places to sit down so we could look over the different courses. My boss already wondered off at this point so it was just us 4 ladies (which was fine with us). We didn't pop in to any of the morning classes because they really were all full and who likes to have that annoying person walk into a seminar and cause a distraction? We didn't want to be that person. So at 11am we went back to the hotel to put our stuff up in our rooms. Here is the room I stayed in.

After that we went for lunch and we were able to beat the rush which was great! In the afternoon we all went to a course, Stacy and I went to one and Taylor and Daisy went to a different one.

For Dinner our boss took us out for dinner which was really nice of him. This is what I had.

Friday March 11th

This morning Taylor and I both slept in (only till about 8:30am) and we watched the news because it was showing what had happened in Japan and it was saying that the Vancouver coast had a warning for possible tsunami. (But no tsunami came which was really good, we just had really cloudy gray, rain weather. But what else can you expect from Vancouver in the middle of March.) It was so shocking to see what happened in Japan, at that point they didn't really have numbers of people that were injured, missing or dead. It was a bit of a freaky morning but we knew that we were safe where we were.
We went early again for lunch and brought our lunches up to where our next seminar was going to be. We wanted to be there early because yesterdays seminar was so full that people had to sit on the floor and stand at the back. After we had our lunch we had lots of time before the seminar actually started so Stacy has this really fun game on her phone called jumble line (its letters that are mixed up and you have to move them around to make words). Let me tell you we had so much fun doing this that we were laughing so much that I'm sure everyone that had passed us was probably thinking we were crazy.

Later tonight Stacy, Taylor and I had gone out for dinner just the 3 of us to a Chinese restaurant that we were told was really good (Daisy had gone out with some of her friends in Vancouver). I thought my chow-main was good but  Stacy and Taylor didn't really end up liking their food. Funny story for you though, when we got there we saw that they had a huge fish tank that had live crab and shrimp and a dead fish. Ya the fish was dead, it was upside down and it's eyes were glazed over. It was really gross, but we went and sat down because well none of us were going to have fish. About 10 minutes after we sat down Stacy went to the bathroom and on her way back she said that they had flipped the fish over because there was a net on top of the tank now and the fish was up right. As we were finishing our meals the table beside us got there food and it was a really stinky fish and we looked at each other thinking did they use that dead fish? Not much long after that did we pay the bill and were leaving, on our way out we looked at the fish tank and the fish was gone! They totally were given that dead fish that who knows how long it was dead for. It was gross but we couldn't help our selves from laughing.
DQ in it. I had a caramel sundae which is definitely one of my favorite treats! We walked around the mall for a little bit and bought only a few little things and then we ventured back to our hotel. We did get a little bit lost but eventually found our way back. We stayed up really late not even realizing what time it was but we figured we might as well since tomorrow we will be going home.

Saturday March 12th

Today we are going home so Taylor and I decided to have a leisurely morning and ate the rest of the snacks that I packed with me and got all of our things packed and ready to go. We had to check out at 12pm and our flight wasn't until 3pm so we got them to hold our suite cases again while we went for lunch. Just the 4 of us had lunch together and then we went back to the hotel to head to the air port. (Stacy didn't come with us because she had a later flight).
We got another limo ride to the airport and we were on time so we started signing in on the computers and one of the West Jet "helpers" came up to us and asked which flight we were checking in to. So we told him the 3pm and he said that the flight was canceled. CANCELED!!!! What do you mean canceled? We didn't get any warning about this other wise we wouldn't have come to the airport. He told us that the plane that we were suppose to be on was getting maintenance done and there wasn't to another plane to take it's place. We were not happy about this, but we went into the line where there was only 2 people working at the check in desks when everyone who was on the 3pm flight was waiting in line to change their ticket to a new flight. Once we got up to the counter (about an hour later) the only flight that was available was Sunday morning at 7am. Really we have to stay another day in the rain when we all had other things planned that evening and were ready to go home! Well they put us up to a hotel and gave us each $10 for our dinner (what will $10 buy you for dinner? not much) and $10 for breakfast (but their breakfast at the hotel didn't open until 6am and that is when we would have to leave the hotel). Here is what the hotel room looked like for us 3 girls to share.

After we got our rooms us girls went and bought junk food because well we are allowed to if we feel like it and just watched a movie on TV. Then Stacy came to our hotel to wait with us before she had to fly out. Lucky her going home tonight. Daisy had gone out with some of her friends that live in Vancouver so it was just us 3 again so we used the $30 voucher for dinner and still had to pay extra because $10 per person doesn't really get you far with even ordering just waters. Once Stacy left it was early bed time because there was a time change happening that night so it was really going to feel like double for us since we would have another time change once back in Calgary.

Sunday March 13th

This morning was very early for me I woke up at 2am!I just couldn't sleep, so I finally got out of bed at 2:30am and had my shower and got my self ready. Then Daisy got up around 4am since Taylor wanted to keep sleeping. Then Taylor got up and got ready and we were all ready to go by 5:30am since out shuttle pick up was for 6am. While we were leaving our room we smelt cigarette smoke which was weird because this was suppose to be a non smoking hotel. So we made a comment when we checked out and then we heard one of the staff say that they had found people smoking in the stairwell. Really people its not snowing out, go out side and have your smoke instead of making everyone else breath in your second had smoke. (sorry I'm not a fan of smoking so I feel it necessary to rant about it sometimes) Well we caught our shuttle, checked our bags, got through security (which was a bit slow) and headed for our terminal so we would be ready to go. We went to go and try to use our breakfast vouchers that west jet gave us ($10each again) but the only place passed security didn't take them. Really what was the point of that. Anyways, we got on the plane and we were going to be in Calgary again in just over an hour. The cool thing about our flight was that one of the pilots really needed to get back to Calgary because he wife was in labor! We got home safe and sound and then my busy Sunday started.

Weekend Recap

Booooo! the weekend is over and back to work. I'm sure the week will go by fast and then the next weekend will go by even faster!

Friday

Today was a fairly busy day at work which made the day go by really fast which is always nice. After work I had to go grocery shopping and pick up something for dinner. I decided to make salmon, which was really great. After dinner and after things were cleaned up I took Matt's mom with me to get a few baby shower gifts that I have been needing to pick up. After that it was a pretty low key evening at home which was really great.

Saturday

Early this morning (8:30am) I went and got a laser hair removal consult done!I'm so excited, I am really hoping that it will work for me, I know it will take probably a few years to complete the treatments but I am hopeful! I have my First appointment on Wednesday March 30th so I will let you know more then.
After I got home Matt's parents left to go back to Red Deer because Matt's mom was not feeling good at all, she had a pretty bad cold. All week she wasn't feeling her usual self but she was able to control it, but late last night and this morning it just elevated to another level so that is why they decided to leave. Even if they did stay she wouldn't have gone to the baptism tomorrow for Paityn anyways because she didn't want to pass along any of her germs. Also it is so much worse being sick when your not at home.
After they had left, Matt had to go to work for a few hours so I just did some laundry and got the guest bedroom and office ready for 2 people that were going to be staying at our house tonight. The reason for having more people stay at our house again tonight is because we are having a youth service and a few people are coming from Medicine Hat for the youth service. Matt and I both went and did some pick ups for the youth service. I started a bit earlier then him at about 5:15pm and youth service wasn't until 7pm. But I did have 3 people to pick up so I had to make sure I gave my self enough time. Youth service was really good, during the service though it was a little funny because I was sitting beside Rachel and Henry was moving around a lot (Henry is her baby that is in her belly) so Rachel took my hand and got me to feel him move. It was really cool this was the biggest "kick" I felt. After youth service I drove another 3 people home but different people  which was on the opposite side of the city from me,so I didn't end up getting home till about 10:30pm. I also then didn't go to bed until MIDNIGHT!!! because we had staying at our house and a few people over after youth service. Oh well I called it quites at midnight and then those who were just visiting left then as well, but I think everyone had fun which is the main thing right?

Sunday

 Today was our new niece's baptism at church. She is almost 3 weeks old (Monday will be her 3 weeks birthday).

After church we went to Boston Pizza because it was close by and all the family that was there was able to go out for lunch. After we said our good byes we all went home and Matt and I took a nap, it was so awesome I wish I could nap everyday! It was really funny though because when we were leaving Boston pizza we both got into the truck and said "I could really use a nap right now". So we slept the afternoon away till about 6pm which gave us about a 3 hour nap, so glorious!

Five Question Friday

I thought I would join in on this 5 question Friday blog from Diary of a Newlywed

1. Have you ever testified in court? If so what was it for?
No I have never testified in court, in fact I have never been in a real court room either.

2. Do you still have your wedding dress?
Yes i do still have my wedding dress. It is hanging in our guest bedroom, I still haven't cleaned it/boxed it either and it will be 5years this July since our wedding day. Oops I really should bring it in to get it cleaned and boxed.

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you are happy, sad, stressed, etc.?
Well if I'm happy I like being around people but I'm super fine if its just the hubs and I. If I'm sad, angry, stressed or emotions like that I would prefer to just be by my self I just like to work things out like that on my own. But I do like getting a hug from my husband during those times because his hugs do make me feel better for sure.

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?

Well I don't have kids right now, I would like to have children now but it just hasn't happened yet. So this would be my plan now for if I had children, When they are first born I would like to have them in a bassinet in our room so it would be easy for me to feed the baby during the night. When they get older and sleep through the night longer I would like them to be in their own room and then be in their own room from there. This way I wouldn't have to struggle with them later when they are older to sleep in their own rooms, have you ever watched super nanny or nanny 911, ya I don't want that to be me. But of course since I don't have kids now that would just be my ideal, however sometimes circumstances may change. I also don't judge on those who want their kids to sleep in their bed at all its their choice.

5. Do you watch late night TV?

No not really. See I have to get up at 4:30am for work so I like to try to be in bed by 9:30pm if it is possible. Even if there were shows on late at night that I would want to watch I would just pvr them, ah technology you are awesome!

Oh how I LOVE Sleep

Earlier this week I had already planned that I was going to sleep all evening after work today.  I was still so tired from Sunday since I wasn't able to catch up on my sleep that day. And this is what I did. I can home got into comfy clothes and had about an hour nap got woken up for dinner (usually Matt doesn't wake me up on my sleep days for dinner but his parents are staying with us for the week so I felt like I should join them for dinner) which was about 30minutes. Then I got fully ready for bed, face washed teeth brushed and flossed and was in bed shortly after 6pm. Good night everyone I wont be seen again until the morning.

Renovation Wednesday

So nothing new has happened at our house for renos this week. The only reno related thing that happened this week was on Monday we had someone come in to have a look at our attic since we found frost earlier this year in it. So we should hopefully get a quote from them soon and figure out when this project can get tackled. I know this one is a boring reno post but hopefully we will get a move on with more renos soon. I am thinking that nothing more will really happen until April since the end of March Matt will be in Toronto for some church business.

Weekend Recap

This weekend was packed with events and people! I am so ready for an easy weekend but that wont be happening next weekend either.

Friday
Today I was still in Vancouver for a dental conference (I'm not going to elaborate too much on it now because I am going to do a post on it later). All I will say is that the courses were really good, I got to see a few people that I haven't seen for a very long time, and it rained every day I was there.

Saturday
Today was suppose to be the last day I was in Vancouver however that did not happen (more on this later).

Sunday
Today I finally got home! It was a very early morning, but I still managed to make it to church (not in my usual church clothes though I was still wearing the clothes that I wore on the plane) After church Matt's older brother came home with us since they were in town because the boys wanted to play the board game Axis and Allies if you haven't heard about this game your not missing much, I know Matt would disagree with me on that but save yourself and don't ever play it it can go on for ever!

Matt has 4 versions of this board game, really who needs 4 versions of the same game!

Then our friends John and Rachel came over, John joined Matt and Richard with the game and Rae and I watched the proposal, well kind of had a nap during it too I was soooooo tired! Then I think Matt's younger brother Kris came next and then Matt's parents arrived around 4pm. Then at about 6pm Kunthea (Richard's wife) and the kids came over. So my little house was full! It was great seeing everyone but I was completely not myself, I was so tired from flying in that morning, I was trying to get myself ready to work the next (laundry and emptying my suite case) and I had gotten my period today too. It was just not my day!
Maybe Thursday I can just sleep all day after work, but I'm sure something will come up and I wont be able to have my extra sleep.

Renovation Wednesday

This weekend we really didn't get too much more done with renos :( Saturday morning was really the only time that I had to be able to go through more of my storage room things and get them a bit more organized. I still am not full happy with how it is organized right now, but I know I will get there. But I took some pictures of what the storage rooms look like with stuff in them, well at least the "basement stuff" storage room has things in it. I am quite impressed with how much stuff can fit in that room.

Some of the things in here were just placed in the room on the floor because I didn't have anymore time to find a home for them.

And here is Matt's tools storage room. It doesn't look too different from what it looked like from last week, I just put 2 storage containers on the shelf. He says that he is still thinking as to how he wants the shelves to be placed.

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday Everyone! Here is what we did this weekend.

Friday
Tonight was a pretty relaxed evening which was great because work was a little bit crazy today. Matt and I had dinner at home and while we had dinner we watched a movie that we rented from Shaw on Demand. We watched Life as We Know It. We both thought it was pretty good, there was some funny parts, sad parts and some awww moments too.

 Saturday
Today was a clean up sort of day. I did about 4 loads of laundry today (I had to wash our sheets), 2 loads of dishes (I don't know where all these dishes come from with only 2 people), and I worked more on the basement. I did a bit more organizing with my storage closet and got rid of a few more things that we don't really need. I now have to find sometime to go and bring it to good will.
Later in the day my parents came to pick me up at 4:30pm so we could go to the airport to go and visit my Auntie Joanne, and my Uncle Joe. Their flight from Phoenix had a stop over for a few hours in Calgary before they headed home to Winnipeg. It has been so long since I have seen them because well they live in Winnipeg (that is where I was born) and I live in Calgary and I haven't made a trip out there for a while. Unfortunately Matt wasn't able to come with us because he had to work. But my parents and I went and picked up my brother before heading to the air port. When we got there we were early because their flight was a little bit behind schedule, then also they had to pass through customs before we could see them. When they finally arrived (it really wasn't that long of a wait) my parents went to go stand and wait for them at the exit they come out of while my brother and I sat around the corner on some chairs (we were surprising them that we came to see them too). And they were surprised! We got to visit with them for a few hours but hopefully next time we see them it will be longer than just a few hours.

Sunday
This morning we had church, and this service was for those in the realms of the departed. It was great to have one of these services because we have known 3 people who have passed away since December.
After church Matt and I went home and got changed because we were invited over to our friend's home so a late lunch early supper, Lupper. It was really great to have a visit, it had been awhile since we had gotten together with them. Also while we were there Matt was able to change out a few lights for them.
On our way home we got to go see our niece for the first time! She is really cute and so tiny, not even a week old yet (well today she will be a week old and if you being technical then not until this evening at 8:05pm). It was so funny because Matt doesn't know how to pick babies up, or pass them, or put them down again. So I started off with her and then passed her to Matt. We had take I think over 100 pictures with Matt's I-phone (I will post a few pics I just have to get Matt's phone from him). We didn't stay too long because it was already getting late, but hopefully we will get to come by again soon!

ABC's of Me

I thought I would join Leigh in the "ABC's of me" post, you can see hers here.

Age: Right now I am 23 but will be 24 in April.

Bed: Its a Queen, eventually we would like to get a King size bed because I like to sleep with a body pillow and Matt hates "how much room I take up" with having the body pillow in the bed. So instead I just cuddle up to him since he is my furnace. Also right now there is no way we could have a king size bed, we would have no bedroom then.

Chore you Dis-like: cleaning the shower/tub. I don't like cleaning this because it's hard for me to reach all the way in and around. But I found the perfect cleaning product and Matt has no problem cleaning the bath tub and shower now. Best invention this is EVER!

Dogs: Well I don't have a dog or any pet, I never did growing up either. We don't plan on getting any pets because our lives are just too busy and it would be un-fair to a pet to not give them the attention that they need. Also we don't want to be changing our lives just to accommodate a pet, my life will only change once we have children. Besides I have some friends that have pets, so when I need a pet fix I just go over there :)

Essential start to your day: hmm well a few things I guess you could say, I really like having a shower in the morning because it makes me feel more awake. Also I MUST eat breakfast, even if I sleep in I still have to have it. I've gone before with out it and I have felt very faint, so it is key for me.

Favorite color: GREEN! I love green especially kelly green, but I like other shades for different things.

Gold or Silver: I would go for White gold or silver. Yellow gold just isn't me, I think it looks funny on me. My wedding and engagement ring are white gold and I also have some sterling silver jewelry.

Height: I am 5'6"

Instruments you have played: I used to take piano lessons when I was younger, but stopped because I wasn't enjoying it. Now I just tinker around on the piano and play a few songs (i only use my right hand though)

Job Title: RDA (Registered Dental Assistant)

Kids: We don't have any right now, but we are hoping to have some soon, we have gone to the doctor and are waiting to get in to get some tests done. So I'm really not sure when it will happen even though we would really like to get pregnant now.

Mom's Name: Paulette (she has a twin and his name is Paul)

Nicknames: V or Nessa mostly (auntie Nessa is what my niece and nephews call me and I'm sure my new niece will do the same.) (V I got the nickname while I was in our youth group at church)

Over night hospital stays: I have had no over night hospital stays, I think I was only over night in a hospital when I was born but I don't really think that counts.

Pet peeve: Well I have a few but I will only give you three,

1. When people don't put the toilet seat down when they are flushing (FYI there are a lot of germs that are splashing up and going into the air if you leave the toilet seat up!)
2. When your walking in a mall or downtown and people just stop either to talk to someone they are passing or just stop for who knows what reason.
3. Socks in couch cushions (this is all Matt, when he is lying on the couch and is all comfy he takes his socks off and leaves them on the couch and they get pushed into the couch cushions)

Vegetables you don't like: I don't really like brussel sprouts, but I will eat them if I have to.

What makes you run late: Usually just making sure I have everything before I leave. Also I think Matt sometimes makes me late while he would say i make him late.

X-rays you've had: I have had my dental x-rays (panoramic- the one that spins around your head, and bite-wings- the little ones that they put in your mouth to check for cavities) Also i have had a back x-ray when I first went to the Chiropractor for regular adjustments. Other than that I don't think there were anymore, I have never broken any bones or sprained anything!

Yummy food you make: I asked Matt because he is the one that eats the food I make most often, he said everything, but I told him to be more specific. He said perogies (we just had those for dinner) and banana muffins (that is one of his favorites)

Zoo animal favorite: Hmm as a kid I really liked the monkeys because I thought they were funny, I also liked the tigers too because I wanted one as a pet they would be cuddly right?

I'm a New Auntie!

On Monday February 28th 2011 at 8:05pm our new niece was born. We got a call that evening at about 9:30pm from Matt's brother Kris (the new daddy) letting us know about the good news. She was actually born on her due date! She was born at 7lbs 5oz, just perfect. Now we have 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Renovation Wednesday

Our storage rooms are almost complete! The walls are done the floor is done and the shelves are up! Monday evening Matt and I started to put our junk stuff in these rooms, well we both started together, I got most of my things in the "basement stuff" storage room while Matt put together this other shelf thing for his room and he cut up a few pieces of scrap wood that we wouldn't need anymore for the garbage and well that was about it for him. Oh well the rooms are set up and ready to have everything put in them, I have to do a bit of sorting through the basement items to see what I can get rid of to have extra room, that will probably happen more this week or over the weekend.

This is my storage room, you can see a little bit of what the floor used to look like at the bottom of the photo.

(Matt's tool storage room) The all metal shelves are in "my storage room" too and the metal + wood one is the one that Matt was putting together on Monday.

So I guess he does have a few things put in his room. (I didn't take any pictures of my storage room because by the time I remembered to take a picture I had majority of the room filled already)

Maybe this weekend we can get doors for the rooms, but I'm not going to push my luck. I will be happy if we can just get all of our stuff that we need to put in the rooms actually in the rooms and maybe get rid of a few things too.

The woes of working on your basement in the winter

I thought I would share some of the obstacles we are facing while we are trying to work on our basement during the winter.
Such as condensation! Its on the walls in the basement since they are not properly insulated yet. This is fine because it will dry and not leave any permanent damage, but we have to wait until it is all dry before we can continue down the wall with insulation and then putting the drywall up. Here are some pictures of the walls when I had come down the stairs. It did freak me out a bit because we did have cracks in our foundation a few years ago (we did get it all fixed though) I was thinking just our luck it cracked again, but it didn't which I am very happy about.



Also the weekend that Matt and my brother were in the attic, well my brother went in the attic, they found that we have frost in the attic which is not a good thing. Our insulation in the attic has lost a lot of its insulating value, I guess you could call it, and is not keeping the hot air in our house. So that is another project that we will have to tackle this summer too.

Man oh man owning a home and especially an older home the projects just never end!
